New River Valley Symphony to perform concert of all-Russian composers at Virginia Tech
BLACKSBURG, Va., November 2, 2009 -- The Virginia Tech Department of Music presents the New River Valley Symphony in their fall concert in Burruss Auditorium on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 8 p.m.
Under the baton of James Glazebrook, the program will feature the 2009 winners of the Virginia Music Teachers Association Concerto Competition performing works by Russian composers. The evenings concert will include Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakovs Overture on Russian Themes; Sergei Prokofievs Piano Concerto No. 1 with Kimberly Hou, piano; and two works by Tchaikovsky: Piano Concerto No. 1, first movement with Ina Mirtcheva, piano; and Capriccio Italien.
In addition to conducting the New River Valley Symphony, Glazebrook has been the conductor of the Roanoke Youth Symphony for over 20 years. He also teaches violin and viola, conducting, and string methods at Virginia Tech.
The Virginia Music Teachers Association, an affiliate of Music Teachers National Association, is an organization of teachers throughout the state who are united in promoting music and musicianship through mutual cooperation.
