Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumnus Patrick Hogeboom named Hokie Hero

BLACKSBURG, Va., October 19, 2009 -- Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumnus Maj. Patrick Hogeboom, United States Army, who received a degree in civil engineering from the College of Engineering in 1994 has been selected as the Hokie Hero for the Virginia Tech versus Georgia Tech football game.

The corps Hokie Hero program started in 2006 by ISP Sports and sponsored by the University Bookstore, honors Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumni who are currently deployed. Recipients of this honor are highlighted by Bill Roth and Mike Burnop during the radio broadcast of Virginia Tech football games, on the corps website, on the corps alumni website and in the Corps Review magazine.

Hogeboom is currently stationed at Contingency Operating Base Adder, Iraq as a member of 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, United States Army and is currently serving as the Brigade Engineer responsible for route clearance and construction projects for southern Iraq and the Iraq-Iranian border. He calls Blacksburg home and this is his 2nd combat deployment.

Hogeboom is a Class of 1994 graduate of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets and was a member of Echo Company all four years. He returned to Virginia Tech in 2004 as a member of the Army ROTC staff and was recognized as the 2007 United States Army Cadet Command Recruiting Operations Officer of the Year. This award is given annually to the top Army ROTC recruiter from the 272 Army ROTC units in the nation. He says he would like to send his love to his wife Blythe a 1995 Virginia Tech graduate and their children Chase, Austin, and Owen.
