Musician Jeff Miller to perform at Deet's Place Oct. 16
By Katie Gehrt
BLACKSBURG, Va., October 13, 2009 -- Folk-pop artist Jeff Miller will be returning to Deet's Place coffee shop and café at Virginia Tech on Friday, Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. for a live performance of material from his four solo albums, including his latest release "Can You Hear the Music?" The show is open to the community and free.
Miller, who got his start in music as a freshman in high school, has been touring as a professional musician since his graduation from Bostons Berklee College of Music, where he studied guitar performance and songwriting. He now plays more than 150 shows a year throughout the United States, and his music can be heard on more than 175 radio stations. Miller previously performed at Deets Place in October 2008 and March 2009, making this his third visit to the venue.
His music has been compared to that of artists such as Steve Tibbetts, Phil Keaggy, and John Mayer, and has received positive reviews, including one from Gary Burr, a member of Ringo Starrs All-Starr Band, who said, "I don't know how he does what he's doing, but it's amazing."
Although Miller performs solo, covering both guitar and vocals, he uses a loop pedal to create intricate layers and sounds, building full songs without the backing of a complete band.
