Manhattan Piano Trio

BLACKSBURG, Va., September 24, 2009 -- The Manhattan Piano Trio will perform Saturday, Oct. 3 at 8 p.m. in the Squires Recital Salon on the campus of Virginia Tech.

The concert is a part of the University Chamber Music Series by the Department of Music and co-sponsored by Blacksburg's Musica Viva.

The program will feature Joseph Haydn’s “Piano Trio in G”; Frederic Chopin’s “Nocturne in C sharp minor”; Camille Saint-Saens’ “Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso Op. 28”; Dimitri Shostakovich’s “Jazz Suite No. 1”; Enrique Granados’ “Intermezzo” from the opera Goyescas; and Maurice Ravel’s “Piano Trio.”

The Manhattan Piano Trio is an ensemble that embodies the borough that provides its namesake: these three musicians represent starkly different backgrounds, connect on a fundamental level to enjoy making music together. Wayne Lee, violinist, is originally from San Francisco; the group’s cellist, Dmitry Kouzov, grew up in St. Petersburg, Russia; and Milana Strezeva, pianist, is a native of Kishinev, Moldova, and a naturalized American. Strongly committed to educating new generations of musicians and music lovers, the Manhattan Piano Trio is adept at weaving informative talks into its performances.
