U.S. Marine Corps flyover hosted by the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Saturday
BLACKSBURG, Va., September 17, 2009 -- The Marine All Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 224 from Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, S.C., will conduct a military aircraft flyover with F/A-18 Hornets prior to the Virginia Tech versus Nebraska football game on Saturday, Sept. 19.
The flyover, which will occur during the National Anthem and barring any weather or operational factors, is being hosted by the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets. The F/A-18 is the primary Navy and Marine multi-role attack and fighter aircraft. Its twin high-performance engines generate over 35,000 pounds of thrust, giving the aircraft a top speed of over Mach 1.7.
The flyover has been coordinated by a 1996 graduate of the corps, Maj. Sean Henrickson, United States Marine Corps, who received a degree in psychology from Virginia Techs College of Science. One of the aircrew of the flyover will be Capt. Aaron Jirovsky, United States Marine Corps, a 2004 graduate of the University of Nebraska.
