BLACKSBURG, Va., June 5, 2009 -- Robin M. Andrews of Blacksburg, professor of biological sciences in the College of Science at Virginia Tech, has been conferred the "professor emerita" title by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.

The title of emeritus may be conferred on retired professors and associate professors, administrative officers, librarians, and exceptional staff members who are specially recommended to the board of visitors by Virginia Tech President Charles W. Steger. Nominated individuals who are approved by the board of visitors receive an emeritus certificate from the university.

A member of the Virginia Tech community since 1976, Andrews has taught both introductory and upper level courses. She has authored or co-authored 74 peer-reviewed journal articles, one book (in three different editions), collaborated with scientists across the world, and has presented papers at national and international scientific conferences. She has been principal investigator on grants from state and federal funding agencies, including the National Science Foundation and the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute.

She has served on editorial board for several scientific journals, committees for scientific societies, and has serves as president of the Society for the Study of Amphibians and Reptiles.

Andrews received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota, a master’s degree from Harvard University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Kansas.
