Robin Panneton

BLACKSBURG, Va., May 28, 2009 -- Robin Panneton, associate professor of psychology and former director of developmental and biological psychology in Virginia Tech's College of Science, has been appointed as the university's Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) coordinator by Vice President and Dean for Undergraduate Education Daniel Wubah.

Panneton will replace Landrum Cross who will step down from that position on June 30. Cross retired as Virginia Tech’s vice president for student affairs in 2005.

A member of the Virginia Tech community since 1989, Panneton's scholarly expertise focuses on perceptual development during infancy, infant speech perception, development of attention during infancy, and multimodal integration in infancy. In 2008, she received a Canadian-U.S. Fulbright Visiting Chair Award, and spent the fall semester as a research chair at the Centre for Research in Language, Mind and Brain at McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

She is a consultant at the university's Child Study Center, director of the Infant Perception Laboratory, and has received two teaching excellence awards. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, and her master’s degree and Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro.

Founded in 1895, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools accredits more than 13,000 schools and school systems throughout the United States and overseas.
