Structural Biology Symposium to focus on cures and drug development
BLACKSBURG, Va., March 18, 2009 -- Disease cures and drug development are two of the many topics that will highlight the fourth Structural Biology Symposium at Virginia Tech.
The symposium will be held Friday, March 27 and is open to the campus community as well as the general public. The event typically draws more than a hundred top researchers across the nation who spend the day sharing knowledge and experience on a wide range of topics of structural biology
Structural biology is a branch of life science that deals with the study of molecular structure of biological macromolecules, how they acquire their structures, and how alternations in their structures affect their function.
The symposium will feature speakers from the University of California Berkley, Wake Forest, Florida State, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, as well as Virginia Tech.
The event is sponsored by the Virginia Tech College of Science, Oxford Diffraction, the Departments of Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Geosciences, Chemistry, Physics, the university’s X-ray Crystallography Lab, and the Molecular Cell Biology and Biotechnology Center.
