Guy J. Indebetouw honored with emeritus status
BLACKSBURG, Va., November 14, 2008 -- Guy J. Indebetouw of Blacksburg, professor of physics in the College of Science at Virginia Tech, was conferred the "professor emeritus" title by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors during the board's quarterly meeting on Nov. 3.
The title of emeritus may be conferred on retired professors and associate professors, administrative officers, librarians, and exceptional staff members who have given exemplary service to the university and who are specially recommended to the board of visitors by Virginia Tech President Charles W. Steger. Nominated individuals who are approved by the board of visitors receive an emeritus certificate from the university.
A member of the Virginia Tech community since 1978, Indebetouw contributed significantly to our understanding of optics, especially holographic imaging, through a lifetime of scholarly research that resulted in more than 125 articles in professional journals, reviews, and book chapters. He also received four patents. He was a long-time member of the editorial boards of two prestigious journals Optik and the Journal of Modern Optics and he was a reviewer for numerous national and international journals, and funding agencies.
Indebetouw taught a variety of undergraduate and graduate lecture courses in his specialized area of optics. He advised many students on Ph.D. dissertations and masters theses and placed them in successful careers in both academic and industrial settings.
