Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign: The Virginia Tech Commonwealth Virginia Campaign (CVC) for 2009 officially started with the annual kickoff luncheon that was held on Sept. 22 at the Owens Banquet Hall. The HokieBird was on hand to welcome luncheon participants and guests.

Mark McNamee (pictured left), the honorary spokesman for this year’s charitable campaign, delivered remarks that emphasized the importance of the CVC in supporting charitable work for the local community. Bev Walter, executive director of NRV Cares, a participating CVC charity, gave an informative talk that described the services that her organization provides to our region. Finally, Rich Charles from Virginia Tech Human Resources demonstrated the new online giving tool that was developed over the past year that aims to make donating to the CVC quick, easy, and secure without the use of paper pledge forms.

This year’s CVC runs through Dec. 16. All employees should receive details about the campaign through their department representative. Employees can also access this information by visiting the CVC website.
