Christine Fiori's research on the Inca Road has offered new discoveries, unexpected challenges, and above all, adventure. Over the course of four years, the associate director of the Myers-Lawson School of Construction and her international team of researchers and students documented close to 100 miles of the Peruvian stretch of the Inca Road.

In its entirety, the road runs from Quito, Ecuador, to Santiago, Chile, crossing rainforests, deserts, and mountains as it climbs from sea level to an altitude of 14,000 feet. The long history of this road and the beauty of the landscape that it embraces manifest that, to the Inca, this road was more than a simple means of getting from one place to the next.
