Virginia Tech Police Department offers child safety seat checks

From: Virginia Tech Police Department

If you have children 8 years old or younger, have your car seats checked with the Virginia Tech Police Department.

The Virginia Tech Police Department has certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians available to properly fit and install your child seats.  Technicians will check for defects, recalls, and safety concerns within the vehicle, and they will demonstrate proper installation technique, so you can be confident in adjusting or moving the seat on your own.

To have your seat checked, stop by the police department’s main office, located at 230 Sterrett Drive in the Sterrett Facilities Complex, behind Lane Stadium on Virginia Tech’s campus in Blacksburg.  Technicians are available during regular business hours or you can call 540-231-6411 to make an appointment.

Visit the Virginia Tech Police Department’s Child Passenger Safety Seats page for more information

Virginia law requires all children 8 years old and younger to be secured in a properly fitted child restraint appropriate for their weight and height, as determined by the U.S. Department of Transportation.  More importantly, ensuring that your child’s car seat is properly installed and fitted will maximize your child’s safety.

The Virginia Tech Police Department works in collaboration with the Virginia Department of Health’s Child Passenger Safety Program to provide the services of certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians as a permanent Fit Station, available to the public year round and free of charge.
