Recycling program expands to collect more plastics

From: Facilities Services

The campus community can now place plastic containers Nos. 1 through 7 into the recycling containers on campus.

Previously just plastics Nos. 1 and 2 (common examples include beverage bottles and milk jugs) were accepted. This is an exciting opportunity for the university to greatly increase the amount of materials recycled and reduce the amount of waste going to the landfill. The university has a goal set in the Climate Action Commitment to increase recycling rates to 50 percent by the year 2025.

Some examples of the plastics that will now be accepted include, but are not limited to, yogurt containers, microwave food trays, plastic cups, and detergent bottles.

Plastic bags and Styrofoam items, such as used to make some coolers, coffee cups, and take-out food containers, will NOT be accepted.
