Governor’s flag order for the Commonwealth of Virginia

This is to order that the flag of the Commonwealth of Virginia shall be flown at half-staff on all local, state, and federal buildings and grounds in the Commonwealth of Virginia in respect and in memory of Retired Virginia Supreme Court Justice William Carrington Thompson.

I hereby order that the flag of the Commonwealth of Virginia shall be lowered immediately and shall remain at half staff through Thursday, June 16, 2011 in accordance with the Virginia protocol that requires flying the state flag at-half staff  for five days from the day of death of an Associate Justice of the Virginia Supreme Court.  The flag may be lowered twenty-four hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.

As previously ordered, the flags of United States and POW/MIA are to be flown at full-staff on Flag Day, June 14, 2011 in accordance with the Presidential Flag Day Proclamation and the Code of Virginia, § 2.2-3310.1.
