Program assists dual-career couples
Virginia Tech's Dual Career Assistance Program (DCAP) provides job search assistance, information, and support to the partner or spouse of a recruited Virginia Tech faculty member. The program was created to respond to the employment challenges facing dual career couples and to assist in recruiting faculty talent to Virginia Tech.
DCAP does not guarantee job placement, but will partner with the client in her/his job search efforts by providing job leads, networking opportunities both at Virginia Tech, and the community. Participants in the program are referred by the department head or other administrator.
The program is designed to provide job search assistance for up to one year. A wide range of services are available that are tailored to the needs of the client. Support and advice on resumes, curriculum vitae, cover letters, and interview readiness are available upon request.
In addition, assistance is provided in obtaining non-employment related information to acquaint incoming faculty and their families with the area. Cathy Jacobs, in the Work Life office, assists in providing work/life balance information for the surrounding area.
Brochures describing the new program are available to share with interviewees and search committees.
Contact Susan Richman, coordinator, at 231-7748. The Dual Career Assistance Program office is located in the Office of Human Resources.
