Virginia Tech's Hokie football team will be on the road at East Carolina University on Sept. 26 — but Lane Stadium won’t be empty. Students and families taking part in Fall Family Weekend will pack the South End Zone Club Lounges to watch Virginia Tech football game on the Jumbotron.

“Fall Family Weekend is a great time to come to Blacksburg, even when our football team is away," said Penny Helms White, director of parent and alumni relations and interim director of new student and family programs. "All Hokies love the fall in Blacksburg, and we’re excited to offer new events, such as the game viewing, along with informational sessions, open houses, and tours, for our families to enjoy a unique weekend with their students on campus.”

Fall Family Weekend, hosted by the Division of Student Affairs, will take place from Sept. 25-27. With the largest first-year class in Virginia Tech’s history, Fall Family Weekend is on track to surpass last year’s 4,467 attendees. A full slate of activities includes the football viewing, GobblerNights, and a variety of campus tours.

Online registration has ended, but students and families are able to register on-site at Squires Student on Friday, Sept. 25, from noon to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 26 from 8 a.m. to noon. Space-limited tours and events are reserved for those who registered online.

The Sept. 26 viewing party in Lane Stadium is free, and tailgate-style food and beer will be available for purchase for Fall Family Weekend attendees in the South End Zone Club Lounges at Gate 3. Game time is to be determined, and gates will open one hour prior to kickoff.

On Friday night, September 25, GobblerNights at Virginia Tech welcomes students and their families to Squires Student Center for a fun night of activities and entertainment. Be sure to check out BreakZone, Virginia Tech’s home for billiards, bowling, and table tennis. This free event, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., is hosted by Student Engagement and Campus Life and will give families a sense of what campus life is like on the weekends.

In addition to these events, the schedule includes an assortment of informational sessions and tours of campus facilities, including athletic facilities and the new Dairy Cattle Center at Kentland Farm. Contact New Student and Family Programs at 540-231-3284 or tracks@vt.edu with any questions.

If you are a person with a disability and desire an accommodation, please contact New Student and Family Programs at 540-231-3284 or email tracks@vt.edu during regular business hours at least 10 business days prior to an event.
