Editor's note: The Virginia Tech Police released the following update: 

On Sept. 12, 2015, a student reported that she was robbed on the Turner Street sidewalk behind the Surge building on the Virginia Tech campus. Upon investigation, it was determined that the case is unfounded - no criminal incident occurred. The student recanted her statement and admitted to fabricating the incident.

As a reminder to the community, the Virginia Tech Police Department takes all reports of crime seriously and encourages the community to continue to report all crimes promptly.

Crime alert: Robbery on Turner Street

BLACKSBURG, Va., Sept. 14, 2015 – At approximately 11:57 p.m. on Sept. 12, the Virginia Tech Police Department responded to the report of a robbery that had just occurred on the Turner Street sidewalk behind the Surge Building on the Virginia Tech campus. 

Upon arrival, a female victim was located and reported that an unknown male grabbed her from behind and threw her to the ground. The victim stated that while she was on the ground, the suspect took several items from her handbag. 

The victim reported that the suspect immediately fled the incident off campus in the direction of Prices Fork Road and Toms Creek Road in the Town of Blacksburg. 

The only description that the victim could provide responding officers was that the suspect was a white male approximately 6 feet 2 inches to 6 feet 4 inches tall and that he was wearing khaki pants.
