8:40 a.m. update: Maintenance crews  have treated roads and sidewalks, but frigid temperatures this morning have created icy patches. Please report problem areas to the Facilities Services Customer Service Center at 540-231-4300.

8:35 a.m. update: The VetMed Cafe is closed today.

6:25 a.m. update: The Virginia Tech National Capital Region (university locations include Alexandria, Arlington, Falls Church and Merrifield) and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine in Roanoke are opening at 10 a.m. today.

March 5: Winter weather impacts university operations; Blacksburg classes canceled after 2 p.m.

BLACKSBURG, Va., March 5, 2015 – Winter weather is affecting much of Virginia. Visit the Virginia Tech News website for the latest announcements should conditions affect university operations.

4:50 p.m. update: Blacksburg Transit bus service is on a reduced service half hour schedule until 6:45 p.m. Normal schedule will resume after 6:45 p.m. Expect delays. Visit the Blacksburg Transit website for the latest information.

4 p.m. update: Virginia Tech has declared a snow emergency effective at 6 p.m. today to allow maintenance crews to clear roads and parking lots on campus. Learn more about the campus winter weather traffic and parking emergency procedures.

3:35 p.m. update Squires Student Center is closing at 8 p.m. tonight.

2:40 p.m. update: Blacksburg Transit will resume service at 3 p.m. Expect delays.

2:30 p.m. update: The Hampton Roads Agricultural Research and Extension Center has closed for the day.

2:05 p.m. update: Au Bon Pain locations at Goodwin Hall and the Graduate Life Center closed at 2 p.m. Turner Place at Lavery Hall is closing at 2:30 p.m. All other dining services locations are operating as normal at this time.

2 p.m. update: The InclusiveVT Advisory Community open meeting scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m. has been canceled.  Visit the InclusiveVT website for rescheduling information. 

1:48 p.m. update: Blacksburg Transit is suspended until further notice. Visit the Blacksburg Transit website for more information. 

1:25 p.m. update: Classes on the Blacksburg campus are canceled effective 2 p.m. for the remainder of the day. Administrative offices will remain open.

1:10 p.m. update: The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine in Roanoke has closed for the day.

12:55 p.m. update: All Blacksburg Transit Services in Blacksburg are suspended temporarily until 1:45 p.m. today. Service in Christiansburg has been canceled today. Visit www.btransit.org for further updates.

12:45 p.m. update: For students leaving today for spring break and planning to travel to other parts of the state, the Virginia Department of Transportation is reporting deteriorating road conditions. Students are advised to delay travel until crews have time to treat roads. Also, students should check road conditions before they leave by calling 511, visiting www.511virginia.org, or downloading the free app.

Noon update: The Child Development Center for Learning and Research will close at 12:45 p.m. Children will receive lunch prior to closing.

5:40 a.m. update: The Virginia Tech National Capital Region (university locations include Alexandria, Arlington, Falls Church and Merrifield), is closed today. All classes are canceled.

Posted 7:30 p.m. Wednesday: The Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center in Leesburg, Virginia (National Capital Region) will be closed for outpatient appointments and elective cases on Thursday, March 5. Essential personnel should report as scheduled. The center will be open for emergency cases and staffed to attend to our current inpatients.
