The Virginia Tech Alumni Association will host its first-ever Summer Beer Festival at Virginia Tech on June 28 at the Holtzman Alumni Center Lawn and Terrace which overlooks the Duck Pond.

The event starts at noon, with VIP early admittance at 11 a.m.

Attendees will sample more than 40 beers from local, regional, and national breweries and sample menu items from local restaurants. And they will enjoy tailgating games, mingle with special Virginia Tech guests, and support a scholarship raffle conducted by the New River Valley Alumni Chapter.

In addition, the festival will feature live entertainment by Train Wreck (classic rock, blues, funk), RYZ (acoustic Americana), and live broadcasting with Drez from 105.3 WBRW.

Tickets can be purchased online or at Blacksburg Kroger locations. Regular admittance is $25 ($30 at the gate) and includes festival activities, 15 4-oz tastings, and a commemorative glass.

Limited VIP access is $50 ($55 at the gate) and includes regular admittance with access to the VIP Lounge located on the Alumni Terrace hosted by The Inn at Virginia Tech with complimentary appetizers, exclusive premier craft beer, and early admittance.

Admission-only tickets are $5 for designated drivers and guests ages 13 to 20; children 12 and under are free.

The Virginia Tech Alumni Association is seeking festival volunteers to work in three-hour increments starting at 8 a.m. Volunteers must be 21 or older and can sign up online.

A separate event, “Tap Takeover,” will be held the evening before, Friday, June 27, at The Cellar Restaurant in downtown Blacksburg. Tap Takeover will feature micro brews offered at Saturday’s festival. Brewery representatives will be available to discuss and answer questions. Entry is free; all beverages sold separately.

More information is available at the festival website and festival Facebook page.
