On Friday Oct. 25, Burruss Auditorium will come alive with the sights and sounds of the eighth annual Band-A-Rama Benefit Spectacular, a musical extravaganza that delights young and old alike. The event is a collage showcase of three Virginia Tech bands.

The first Band-A-Rama concert in 2006 stemmed from the idea that a fundraiser could benefit students by providing scholarships and help defray travel costs to music festivals, symposiums, and clinics.

Last year, proceeds went to help students of the Symphonic Wind Ensemble travel and perform at Carnegie Hall in New York. This year, the directors of the participating ensembles will dedicate the proceeds toward scholarships for incoming wind and percussion students.

The concert is a fun event, full of familiar, toe-tapping music. It will open with the Jazz Ensemble directed by Jason Crafton, followed by the Symphonic Wind Ensemble directed by Andrew Putnam. Finally, The Marching Virginians, directed by Dave McKee, fill the auditorium, complete with flag corps, feature twirlers, and drum majors, playing traditional football tunes and favorites from football Saturdays in Lane Stadium.

The concert will provide an enjoyable, tuneful evening of music for all. Watch the Marching Virginians perform "Tech Triumph" at Band-A-Rama.

Tickets for the benefit are $10 general, $8 senior, and $5 student, and may be purchased at the Student Centers and Activities Ticket Office on the first floor of Squires Student Center, online, or by calling 540-231-5615. Tickets will also be available at the door beginning one hour prior to the performance. Discounted seats are available with the purchase of 5 or more tickets to any combination of performances in the School of Performing Arts 2013-14 season. The season includes the Visiting Artist Series, Ensemble Performance Series, Mainstage Theatre productions, and cinema events.
