The New River Valley Symphony, under the direction of James Glazebrook, will perform its fall concert on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 8 p.m. in Burruss Auditorium on the campus of Virginia Tech.

The concert is presented by the Virginia Tech Department of Music.

Gustav Holst's ever popular work The Planets will be performed. Written between 1914 and 1916, this enduring work has seven movements, each named after a planet and corresponding to its astrological character, such as Mars, the Bringer of War, and Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity.

The New River Valley Symphony is a university-community orchestra with approximately 80 student, faculty, and community resident musicians selected through an audition process. This will be the first of a series of three concerts in the 2011-2012 season.

Tickets are $9 general, $7 senior, and $5 student, and are available at the Student Centers and Activities Ticket Office in Squires Student Center. To order tickets, call 540-231-5615, order online, or purchase tickets at the ticket office. Tickets will also be sold at the door beginning one hour prior to the performance.

Free parking is available in the Squires Lot, located at the corner of College Avenue and Otey Streets, in the Architecture Annex Lot on Otey Street, and the Perry Street/Prices Fork lots. Find more parking information online or call 540-231-3200. Alternative parking is available in the Kent Squires parking garage and the Farmers Market metered parking lot, both located on Draper Road.
