Department of Theatre and Cinema presents Shakespeare's 'Twelfth Night'

BLACKSBURG, Va., Oct. 31, 2011 – The Department of Theatre and Cinema at Virginia Tech presents William Shakespeare’s colorful comedy Twelfth Night, directed by Gregory Justice. Performances are Nov. 3-5 and 8-12 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 5-6 and 12-13 at 2 p.m. All shows will be at Squires Studio Theatre on the campus of Virginia Tech. 

The production promises to be an excitingly irreverent re-framing of Shakespeare’s classic comedy of mistaken identities and unrequited love. The creative team, which includes scenographer Randy Ward, lighting designer John Ambrosone, and costume designer Sammi Santini, has come up with a free wheeling, anachronistic approach to bringing these beloved characters to life on the stage. 

Do you like Lady Gaga? Freddy Mercury? What about Liberace? All of these iconic performers have influenced this production in some way. Add some Cole Porter music, and this production promises to be a memorable one. Come ready to be shocked, amused, and entertained.

Tickets are $10 general admission, $8 for students and seniors, and are available at the Student Centers and Activities Ticket Office in the Squires Student Center. Free parking is available in the Squires Lot, located at the corner of College Avenue and Otey Streets, in the Architecture Annex Lot on Otey Street, and the Perry Street/Prices Fork lots. Virginia Tech’s School of Performing Arts and Cinema, a unit within the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, is comprised of the Department of Music and the Department of Theatre and Cinema.
