Lindsay Key has been named communications officer for Fralin Life Science Institute

Previously, Key served as research communications specialist at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

In her new position, Key will develop and maintain the institute’s communications plan, website, and related print and electronic materials. One of Virginia Tech’s seven flagship research institutes, Fralin Life Science Institute’s purpose is to increase the quality, quantity and competitiveness of the university’s life science research, education, and outreach. It brings together researchers from areas as diverse as infectious disease,  vector-borne disease, obesity, molecular plant sciences, and cancer biology.

At UNC Wilmington, Key was responsible for the development and management of the research website and related sites, and for writing research-focused news stories, press releases, and magazine feature articles.  She assisted in the planning, editing, and production of UNC Wilmington’s research magazine, re:search: a journey of intellectual inquiry.

Prior to that, Key worked for The Roanoke Times, where she covered local arts, Radford City and Montgomery County government, and various other general topics. Key received two bachelor’s degrees — in English and communication studies — from Virginia Tech.  She received a master of fine arts degree in creative writing from the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
