The following notices were provided to Virginia Tech from the Blacksburg Police Department.

Blacksburg police continue to investigate leads in reference to a suspicious incident in the area of Kipps Elementary School on Prices Fork Road on Thursday, March 3, when a citizen reported seeing a man with a rifle in the area. 

As of the time of this release no suspect has be identified. As a precautionary measure an increased police presence remains in the area during school hours. 

The Blacksburg Police Department requests that anyone with information about the incident or who witnesses suspicious activity in the area call the department at (540) 961-1150 or the tip-line at (540) 961-1811.

Blacksburg Police respond to call of a suspicious person

BLACKSBURG, Va., March 3, 2011 -- At 12:54 p.m. on March 3, 2011 (today) Blacksburg Police received a call in reference to a subject carrying a rifle in the area of Kipps Elementary School on Prices Fork Road. Police responded to the scene and placed Kipps Elementary and the Blacksburg High School on lock-down. A description of the alleged suspect is as follows:

White male with a stocky build; blue or black jacket, dark colored cap, possibly light in color trousers.

As of the time of this release both schools are currently still on lock-down and an area canvas is being conducted by police personnel from Blacksburg, Virginia Tech, and Montgomery County.
