Registration now open for Virginia Tech's Gobblerfest 2010
Online registration for Gobblerfest 2010 is now open to area businesses, non-profits, Virginia Tech student organizations, and university departments through Friday, Aug. 13. The event itself will take place Friday, Aug. 27.
"Our goal is to attract a wide range of businesses, clubs, and groups so that participants can get to know their neighbors, become aware of volunteer opportunities, and get involved in their community," said Steve Clarke, director of the Campus Alcohol Abuse Prevention Center at Virginia Tech and co-chair of Gobblerfest 2010. "Gobblerfest is an excellent way for students, faculty, staff, and community members to meet each other, explore common interests, and become a part of the Hokie neighborhood."
Those interested in registering for booths should visit the Gobblerfest website or go directly to the registration page. The basic registration fee is $100. Business members of Downtown Blacksburg Inc. can register for $50. For student organizations and non-profits, the registration fee is waived. The Student Budget Board and VT-ENGAGE will cover the costs for those registrants. Additional opportunities for higher levels of sponsorship will be posted on the Gobblerfest website. The registration deadline is Friday, Aug. 13 at 5 p.m. Late registrations will not be accepted.
More than 370 student organizations, businesses, non-profit organizations, and Virginia Tech departments registered for the Gobblerfest information fair in 2009. An estimated 18,000 people took part in the Gobblerfest outdoor festivities and 3,000 people attended the late night activities held in Squires Student Center. Organizers anticipate even greater participation in 2010.
Gobblerfest 2010 is part of the many Hokie Hi activities planned for Aug. 18 through Sept. 3 as Virginia Tech's fall semester starts. Gobblerfest 2010 chairs are Krisztina Roder, University Unions associate director for event management; Laura Bedenbaugh, Student Activities assistant director of student programming; and Steve Clarke.
Gobblerfest 2010 will include the outdoor festival stretching from library plaza into the downtown business district, community stages for musical performances, inflatable games, a silent auction to benefit the Community Initiatives Fund, the Class of 2012 concert and pep rally, and late night activities in Squires Student Center.
