Robert Snider honored with emeritus status


BLACKSBURG, Va., June 23, 2010 – Robert Snider, professor of mathematics in the College of Science at Virginia Tech, has been conferred the "professor emeritus" title by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.

The title of emeritus may be conferred on retired professors and associate professors, administrative officers, librarians, and exceptional staff members who are specially recommended to the board of visitors by Virginia Tech President Charles W. Steger. Nominated individuals who are approved by the board of visitors receive an emeritus certificate from the university.

Snider served on many departmental committees, university honor court, and a National Research Council panel to select Ford Foundation postdoctoral Fellows. He also delivered 37 invited conference lectures and colloquia in seven countries.

Snider taught a wide variety of mathematics courses at all levels of the curriculum.

He holds a bachelor's degree from Virginia Tech and a master's degree and Ph.D. from the University of Miami.
