BLACKSBURG, Va., June 9, 2010 – Looking to get outdoors and have a ball this summer? If so, come out and play in the Virginia Tech Golf Course's golf league.

The Virginia Tech Golf Course is hosting a Summer Golf League starting this week. The league will consist of five weeks of 9-hole play each Monday, with tee-off times between 2 and 5:30 p.m.

The format will consist of teams of two, with a minimum of 10 teams and a maximum of 30 teams. No need to worry if you don’t have a partner, they’ll find one for you. The format is low gross and low net (Bankers Handicap). The league is open to all Virginia Tech students, faculty/staff, and the general public.

A team entry fee of $40 is required to be in the league, but 100 percent of that money goes to the prize fund. An additional $11/week (students) or $15/week (faculty/staff and public) will be needed for green fees. Prizes will be awarded at the end of the five-week league and will be awarded in the form of gift certificates to the pro shop.

Ladies, not quite sure if your golf skills are up to par? Now is your chance to perfect your game! The Virginia Tech Golf Course is also hosting a Women’s Golf League continuing every Wednesday until Aug. 25. Tee-offs will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. or 3 to 5:30 p.m., and play is individual.

The league is open to all female students, faculty/staff, in addition to the general public. To allow room for flexibility, golfers can pay by the week, only $15/week which covers green fees and prizes. Each week will consist of a new type of play such as Most 1 Putts or Most 6’s. Prizes will be awarded monthly in the form of gift certificates for the pro shop.

PGA Head Professional Chris Lovrine states, “We hope to engage women and help them become familiar with the game of golf, have fun, and enjoy themselves. It’s a way to network and to have fun. We are really trying to emphasize to women that golf is a game of fun and relaxation-- it can be enjoyable and being that it is only women, there is no pressure!”

If you are looking to perfect your game, the Ladies’ Golf Clinics will help you master your swing. The clinics will be held every Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. through June 29.

No clubs? No problem. The Virginia Tech golf course has clubs available for you to use. On the final night of clinic, a three-hole scramble will take place to allow you to show off your perfected swing. Now is your chance to take advantage of a great opportunity for a great price.
