Weiguo (Patrick) Fan, associate professor of accounting and information systems in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech, has been named the L. Mahlon Harrell Junior Faculty Fellow by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.

The L. Mahlon Harrell Junior Faculty Fellowship in Accounting and Information Systems was established by alumni and friends of L. Mahlon Harrell, who was a member of the faculty in Virginia Tech's Department of Accounting from 1931 until his retirement in 1971.

L. Mahlon Harrell Junior Faculty Fellows retain the fellowship for a three-year period.

A member of the Virginia Tech community since 2002, Fan (http://www.acis.pamplin.vt.edu/fac/fan.htm) has published 32 peer-reviewed journal articles, six book chapters, and 67 peer-reviewed conference proceedings. In addition, he has made six conference presentations and has given another 14 invited presentations. Fan has been co-principal investigator on seven funded research grants, five of which have been funded by the National Science Foundation.

He received his bachelor's degree from Xi'an Jiaotong University, China, a master's degree from the National University of Singapore, and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.
