Caryl E. Gray, librarian for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Virginia Tech, has been conferred the "assistant professor emerita for University Libraries" title by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.

The title of emeritus may be conferred on retired professors and associate professors, administrative officers, librarians, and exceptional staff members who are specially recommended to the board of visitors by Virginia Tech President Charles W. Steger. Nominated individuals who are approved by the board of visitors receive an emeritus certificate from the university.

A member of the Virginia Tech community since 1971, Gray worked closely with faculty to build and maintain strong library collections to support faculty teaching and research needs. She also guided numerous undergraduate and graduates students through the complex process of fining and obtaining advanced research materials.

She is highly regarded for her exceptional reference skills, expansive knowledge of the literatures of many disciples, intellectual curiosity, personal approachability, and her dedication to delivering excellent library service.

Gray received her bachelor’s degree from the West Virginia University, a master’s degree from the University of Michigan.
