BLACKSBURG, Va., June 4, 2009 – In recognition of a career of excellence, Donna Dunay, the G. T. Ward Professor of Architecture and chair of the International Archive of Women Architects in the School of Architecture + Design, was named an American Institute of Architects (AIA) Fellow.
Only 2 percent of the professionals in the AIA attain this distinction.
Dunay received her fellowship medal at the 2009 National AIA Convention and Design Exposition in San Francisco in May.
A resident of Blacksburg, Dunay teaches that research is fundamental to design. Her book, Town Architecture, and numerous articles, papers, and exhibitions have broadened the professional linkages to history and planning that emphasize civic responsibility and identity. She received a master’s and bachelor’s in architecture from Virginia Tech, and has been teaching at the university since 1975.
