Jermaine Holmes, formerly assistant director of Student Athlete Support Services at The Ohio State University, has been named director of Student Athlete Academic Support Services at Virginia Tech. Holmes began his new post on Jan. 12.

In his new position Holmes will provide leadership for Student Athlete Academic Support Services (SAASS), and along with a staff of 10, will be responsible for developing and implementing programs and services to facilitate student athletes’ academic achievement, retention, and graduation. At The Ohio State University since 2004, Holmes served as an athletic academic counselor and was promoted to assistant director of a support unit that served nearly 1,000 student athletes. He most recently managed that department’s day-to-day activities, office operations, facilities and staff; oversaw the academic support programs for all student athletes, and served as the academic counselor for football and track at the institution.

Holmes will report to Karen Eley Sanders, associate vice president for academic support services. “Jermaine’s experience as a successful student athlete and graduate student at Virginia Tech, as well as his experience in directing and providing academic support for student athletes make him an ideal candidate to work with SAASS,” Sanders said. “I am pleased to welcome him to the academic support team at Virginia Tech.”

Holmes received a bachelor’s degree in business (marketing) and master’s degree in resource management from Virginia Tech.
