“America's Best Colleges 2008” survey released by U.S. News & World Report in August 2007 ranked the Virginia Tech College of Engineering's undergraduate program 14th in the nation among all accredited engineering schools that offer doctorates, and eighth among those at public universities. The individual college rankings are based on assessments by deans and senior faculty at peer institutions. Six of the college’s undergraduate engineering programs were ranked among the top 20 among their peer programs.

The latest national survey released by the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) — with fall semester 2006 data — ranked the Virginia Tech College of Engineering fourth in the number of full-time teaching faculty, third for the number of tenured/tenure track women faculty, tenth for the number of African American faculty, sixth for the number of Asian faculty, and fifth for the number of Hispanic faculty. The data was based on a survey of 323 engineering schools.
