Virginia Tech's English Language Institute is now able to offer the Educational Testing Service (ETS) TOEFL IBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test) exam here at Virginia Tech.
The TOEFL is the leading English proficiency examination in the United States, accepted by thousands of colleges and universities for admissions purposes. The TOEFL IBT assesses proficiency in all four language skills: reading, listening, speaking, and writing. Delivered through a secure Internet-based delivery platform, the test emphasizes integrated communication skills and communicative competence.
According to Don Back, director of the English Language Institute, “Bringing the TOEFL IBT to Virginia Tech will not only help serve the international community already here in the area, but elsewhere in the state and the nation. In the two administrations we have given, we have already drawn test takers driving many hours from other parts of Virginia, from West Virginia, Washington D.C., and North Carolina.”
Individuals may register to take the TOEFL IBT at the English Language Institute on Virginia Tech’s campus by visiting the Educational Testing Service website. The test will be administered at least once each month, next scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 15.
The English Language Institute will soon begin offering a workshop called “TOEFL 911!” to help prepare students to take the TOEFL IBT. The workshop will be held the day before each Saturday test date.
The English Language Institute is located in Pointe West Commons at 840 University City Boulevard, across from University Mall. Contact Don Back at (540) 231-9814.
