(4 p.m. EDT) Three university buildings, Torgersen, Durham, and Whittemore, have been closed since Friday because of a bomb threat. Police have swept the buildings with search teams and deemed the building suitable for use beginning 7 a.m. Monday, April 16.

Virginia Tech has posted a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons involved in either bomb threat incidents occurring April 2 or April 13. The university encourages anyone with relevant information to contact the Virginia Tech Police Department at 232- TIPP (8477).

Virginia Tech Police, in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, continue to investigate both incidents.

(April 13, 2007, 6 p.m. EDT) Due to the closing of Torgersen, Durham, and Whittemore halls as a result of a bomb threat, the locations of the following events scheduled this weekend in those buildings have been changed:

  • Hokie Focus: Please come to Burruss Hall Lobby between 8:30 and 9 a.m. to check in and receive instructions for specific Hokie Focus events.
  • The Wittgenstein Conference scheduled for 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Saturday has been moved from 1000 Torgersen Hall to 110 Holden Hall.
  • The Theatre Arts reception in honor of the cast and crew of Joe Turner's "Come and Gone" and the Christiansburg Institute that was to take place in Torgersen Museum on Sunday, April 15 at 5 p.m. has been moved to the Squires Studio Theater.   • This weekend's preparations for the CPES Conference, Industry Review, and Site Visit have been moved to The Inn at Virginia Tech. Everybody assigned to help with logistics Saturday and Sunday should come to the New River Room at the Inn at for the latest assignments. You should also check with Origin for the latest changes. The computer lab is being moved to Draper's Meadow Room at the Inn at Virginia Tech. All files and software that you may need for the conference and site visit should be recovered to your personal or other accessible computer. PLEASE KEEP THAT ROOM CLEAN, because it will be the NSF Site Visitor's room starting on Monday morning. The research labs will be closed until Whittemore is open. This is expected at this time to happen on Monday morning. The last minute lab preparations for the dialogue sessions then will have to be done during the Conference on Monday and night before. April 13, 2007, 3 p.m. EDT--Because of a bomb threat, Virginia Tech is immediately closing the following three buildings: Torgersen, Durham, and Whittemore halls.

Classes in these three buildings are cancelled for the remainder of the day.

The three buildings will remain closed until further notice.

Traffic will be restricted on campus roadways including the Alumni Mall.

Activities scheduled in these buildings for tonight and this weekend will be rescheduled. Go to www.vt.edu for further information.

All faculty, staff, administrators, and graduate students who work in Torgersen, Durham, and Whittemore halls are asked to immediately report to the Burruss Hall Auditorium for further information.
