Guy A. Sims, former interim director of the Maucker Union at the University of Northern Iowa, has been named assistant vice president for student affairs

In his new position, Sims will provide leadership for student-life functions that promote an inclusive campus climate, and will facilitate campus-wide initiatives that foster student leadership and excellence in the academic, social, and civic environment. He will oversee several university departments, including University Unions and Student Activities, Multicultural Programs and Services, the Cranwell International Center, and the Office of the Dean of Students.

Sims has served as associate director and interim director of the Maucker Union, a hub of social and educational activities serving 14,000 students at the University of Northern Iowa, since 2000. In addition to his administrative responsibilities, Sims was an adjunct professor in the university’s College of Education, teaching a course on human relations and applications. He also served as Northern Iowa’s assistant director for student activities from 1996 to 2000.

Sims received a bachelor’s degree from Lincoln University, a master’s degree from Beaver College, a master’s degree from National University, and an Ed.D. from the University of Northern Iowa.
