ChoicePoint president to receive Pamplin College Distinguished Alumnus Award

Douglas C. Curling, president, chief operating officer, and director of ChoicePoint, will receive the 2006 Distinguished Alumnus Award from Virginia Tech’s Pamplin College of Business at the college’s commencement ceremony that begins at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, at Cassell Coliseum.

The college created the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1990 to honor alumni for outstanding career accomplishments and contributions to the college.

Curling, who directs the operations and technology groups, has helped guide the Alpharetta, Ga., identification and credential verification services company towards double-digit growth in revenue and operating profit. He has served ChoicePoint as executive vice president and chief financial officer and treasurer.

Previously at credit tracking firm Equifax (where ChoicePoint was a former division before its spin-off in 1997), Curling served as vice president and assistant corporate controller and then as senior vice president of finance and administration for the insurance services group. He has also worked at RJR Nabisco and Ernst and Young.

Curling earned two degrees from Virginia Tech, a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1976 and a master’s degree in 1977. He is a member of the Pamplin Advisory Council, which comprises 70 college alumni and friends who provide guidance on curriculum, student recruitment, business partnerships, and other matters. In March 2004, Curling gave a lecture on managerial leadership to students and faculty as a Wachovia Distinguished Speaker. He was instrumental in arranging for Rev. Jesse Jackson to give the keynote address at the university's celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Week this past January and for ChoicePoint to sponsor the event.
