The Southwest Virginia Aquaculture Research and Extension Center will be offering a free hands-on workshop on Recirculating Aquaculture Systems on Saturday, May 6, from 1 – 5 p.m.

This workshop will be held at the Aquaculture Research and Extension Center (424 W. Main St., Saltville Virginia), and will provide individuals interested in becoming aquaculture producers with information on the principles of recirculating aquaculture system design and operation. Attendees will learn how to measure and interpret water quality data in recirculating aquaculture systems. The economics of recirculating aquaculture systems will also be discussed. Resource materials used in the workshop will be available for purchase. Those interested in attending should pre-register by calling the Aquaculture Center (276-496-4999) on or before May 1.

Founded in 2001, the Southwest Virginia Aquaculture Research and Extension Center supports the development of sustainable aquacultural and horticultural enterprises through research, demonstration, and extension activities. Researchers at the Aquaculture Center conduct research on yellow perch production technology in commercial-scale recirculating aquaculture systems. The Aquaculture Center is one of thirteen Agriculture Research and Extension Centers operated by Virginia Cooperative Extension and Virginia Tech.
