Inspirational speaker Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger—immortalized in the 1993 film produced by Angelo Pizzo and David Anspaugh that chronicles his dream of playing football for the University of Notre Dame—is scheduled to speak in Burruss Auditorium on Wednesday, April 26 at 7 p.m.

The third of 14 children, Rudy’s fierce determination landed him a spot on the Notre Dame football team despite many obstacles and much discouragement. As fans cheered for him, Rudy sacked the quarterback in his only play in the only game of his college football career. He remains the only player in the school’s history to be carried off the field on his teammates' shoulders and is among the most famous graduates of the University of Notre Dame.

At Virginia Tech he will bring a message of overcoming obstacles and staying on track to reach one’s dreams. His presentation will include a video production that touches the spirit and impacts of a “Yes I Can” attitude.

Admission is free to students, faculty, and staff (with Virginia Tech ID), and $3 for the general public. Tickets go on sale Thursday, April 6 at the Squires Student Center Box Office. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling (540) 231-5615. Free parking is available around the Drillfield and off Perry Street (Lot 2) near Prices Fork Road. Parking information is available here or call (540) 231-3200.
