Aquaculture seminar in Saltville highlights technology, opportunities
The Southwest Virginia Aquaculture Research and Extension Center (AqREC) in Saltville, Va., will offer the seminar, “Aquaculture Opportunities for Southwest Virginia” on Tuesday, Jan. 17. The 5 p.m. seminar will be held at Northwood High School in Saltville and is open to those interested in becoming aquaculture producers.
The seminar will feature information on different types of aquaculture production systems, candidate aquaculture species, marketing of aquaculture products, permitting requirements, and business planning for aquaculture ventures. Information will also be presented on future AqREC aquaculture training workshops and extension programs.
Participants will be served a free fish dinner, and will receive a notebook containing resource materials for prospective aquaculturists. Those interested in attending should register by Jan. 9 by calling the AqREC at 276-496-4999.
