The Core Laboratory Facility at the Virginia Bioinformatics Institute at Virginia Tech will hold an open house to showcase its latest services and technologies for the life sciences. The event, which will give an overview of available services and provide a forum to assess customer feedback on these offerings, will include a strong focus on the Core Laboratory Facility’s proteomics technologies.

The open house will be held Friday, Dec. 2 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Virginia Bioinformatics Institute Conference Center and lobby, Bioinformatics Facility, on Washington Street.

The program with include:

==> Introduction by Bruno Sobral, executive and scientific director of the Virginia Bioinformatics Institute;

==> Overview of Core Laboratory Facility and introduction to key personnel by Susan Martino-Catt, director of the Core Laboratory Facility;

==> A poster and information session for genomic and proteomic services.

Technical experts will be available at each poster stand to answer questions. Attendees will be able to provide direct feedback on each technology. They will also be invited to complete a short survey on the Core Laboratory Facility’s services and technologies. Participants in the survey will be eligible for a prize draw for an “impossibly small” iPod nano.

Refreshments will be available after the event. For information, please contact Susan Martino-Catt at (540) 231-1399, smartin@vbi.vt.edu.

Virginia Bioinformatics Institute (VBI) at Virginia Tech has a research platform centered on understanding the “disease triangle” of host-pathogen-environment interactions. With almost $52 million in extramural research funding awarded to date, VBI researchers are working on many human, crop, and animal diseases.
