Virginia Tech hosts three international Fulbright scholars

Virginia Tech is hosting three international scholars during the 2005-06 academic year through the Fulbright Visiting Scholars Program.

Those scholars are:

==> Fauziah Binti Abdullah, associate professor, Institute of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Abdullah is conducting research on evaluating responses of Hylobius Pales, the pest of Christmas tree seedlings, towards semiochemicals and will be on campus during the spring semester.

==> Konstantin Kiyanenko, professor, Department of Architecture and Urban Design, Vologda Sate Technical University, Vologda, Russia. Kiyanenko is conducting research on the social component of the world picture in American architectural education and will be on campus both fall and spring semester.

==> Blessilda Perez Raposa, associate professor, Mathematics Department, De la Salle University, Manila Philippines. Raposa is developing a set of criteria to determine polynomical dynamical systems that have steady states: application to a coral biochemical system and will be on campus during the spring semester.

These three visiting scholars are among the approximately 800 foreign faculty and professionals the Fulbright Scholars Program will bring to the United State to teach and conduct research. Recipients of Fulbright awards are selected on the basis of academic or professional achievement and because they have demonstrated extraordinary leadership potential in their fields.

Established in 1946, the Fulbright program is America's flagship international education exchange activity and is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs. Since the program was established, thousands of U.S. faculty and professionals have studied, taught or conducted research abroad, and thousands of their counterparts from other countries have engaged n similar activities in the United States.
