Burning River Brass will perform Oct. 7

The program includes baroque, classical, romantic, and modern works spanning the centuries from Bach to Bizet and Mozart to Grandos. Anthony DiLorenzo's contemporary work Cinematic Brasscelebrates the sounds of brass in film. Prokofiev's Sythian Suite, Debussy's Petite Suite, and J.S. Bach's Suite for Brass will be among the program selections on Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. at the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church.

Burning River Brass has been dazzling audiences since 1996 with "power and virtuosity," "harmonious blend," and "consistently stirring performances." The original inspiration behind Burning River Brass was to give great players who were also good friends a chance to play together on a consistent basis. By 1998 the group was touring nationally and in 1999 they recorded their first CD, Of Knights and Castles, with Dorian Records. The group's latest CD is entitled Romanza Espana—Spanish Masterworks for Brass and was released in the fall of 2004 and a new Christmas CD is soon to follow.

The ensemble is composed of 12 of the country's finest brass and percussion players, including: David Duro, Justin Emerich, Geoffrey Hardcastle, Heather Zweifel, trumpets; Gregory Miller, Seth Orgel, horns; Rebecca Ciabattari, David Mitchell, Jeremy Moeller, trombones; Wes Citron, bass trombone; Matthew Gaunt, tuba; and Feza Zweifel, percussion and timpani.

The concert is scheduled for one performance only Thursday evening.
