Tom Murphy, of Blacksburg, former senior vice president and trust officer at the National Bank of Blacksburg, has been named associate director of gift planning at Virginia Tech.

In his previous position, Murphy helped numerous clients manage their assets and facilitated a variety of charitable gifts to nonprofit organizations.

Murphy received his bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech.

Founded in 1872 as a land-grant college, Virginia Tech has grown to become the largest university in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
