William M. Elvey of Blacksburg, interim assistant vice president for facilities at Virginia Tech, has been named assistant vice president for facilities.

Elvey came to Virginia Tech in 1997 as director of physical plant following a career as a facilities operations officer in the U.S. Navy. He holds a bachelor's degree and master's degree from Rice University and a Master of Business Administration degree from George Mason University.

"Bill's strong work ethic and service orientation, as well as his long experience in facilities management, have made him a strong member of the administrative team, and I am pleased that he will continue to serve Virginia Tech in this key role," said Raymond Smoot, vice president for administration and treasurer.
