Virginia Tech students will be participating in the 20th Annual "Broomin' & Bloomin'" countywide clean-up this spring. This event is sponsored by the Montgomery County Improvement Council (MCIC) and will take place on Saturday, April 19 from 7 a.m. - 1 p.m.>

The day will start off with a continental breakfast that has been donated by local merchants and restaurants for all the participants. Following breakfast, supplies will be handed out and groups will be assigned to certain jobs for the day which may include cleaning parks, local school grounds or areas along roadways and streams. The Virginia Tech Grounds Department will be providing most of the equipment.

According to Linda Crable, event chair, "There will be plenty to clean up, we're just hoping to have enough people to work with us." Last year 675 people volunteered their time to pick up 46,780 pounds of debris.

"Broomin' & Bloomin'" started in 1983 as an essay contest about cleaning up the environment and has progressed to a day of clean-up in Montgomery County. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the event, art students at Christiansburg High School will participate in a logo design contest. All participants will receive a t-shirt with the winning design on it.
